This is a late 1930s or early 1940s long pink satin slip with a square neckline that is edged in a mesh lace and floral overlay. Little hand or machine embroidered rosettes sit below the lace trim on the décolleté. The sleeveless design is trimmed with narrow lace on the V-neck to the back and arm openings. It has an inverted empire line seam and is a bias-cut that would reach the floor if the wearer is around 5 ft 4 in (163 cm) and the ankle if they are taller. There is a little pink ribbon tie to the sides which gives the dress more definition.
The slip is not labelled but likely American made; earlier slips are hard to come by in this condition which is well preserved. The satin is excellent and unmarked. It possible that the lace border may have darkened with age but its very uniform and should not be seen as a fault. Due to the bias cut design, this will fit a range of sizes up to UK 10-12 or US 6-8 as there is a little give with the fabric.
